No.24 Recognition
The little girl once entered an art competition. Her class at school were asked to draw a farming scene from the past and the drawings were to be shown and judged at a local agricultural show being held that weekend. The little girl drew a farmhouse, the road leading up to the farmyard, and a field with a large haystack and people working to pile up the hay onto the haystack.
Much to her surprise the little girl won the competition! She hadn’t expected to, it came as a complete surprise. The little girl hadn’t even visited the show to see the display. Some of her little friends had visited the show and told the little girl about it at school the next week. She was really pleased and happy.
There wasn’t an actual prize but there was a small plaque with her name and “1st Place” engraved on it. Her teacher gave her the plaque at school. It was the first time the little girl had been given any recognition for her drawings. She loved to draw but hadn’t known that her artwork might be good enough to win a competition.
The little girls little friends told her that winning 1st Place was really great and her drawing was good. From then on her little friends like to see what she was drawing and would tell her they liked what she drew. They were very encouraging and this gave the little girl the confidence to draw more often and to let people see her work…..and the little girl still has that little plaque, of course.
