No.15 Magical Miracle Of Nature
The little town was an historical town, with old and ancient buildings, but the oldest thing of all was an ancient tree. Nobody knew for sure just how old the tree was but it was certainly at least 500 years old, might be as much as 1000 years old and perhaps even 2000 years old.
If it was 500 years old, it was present when Mary Queen of Scots stayed in the town. If it was 1000 years old, then it was present even before the abbey was established and before the town built up. 2000 years old was just beyond comprehension.
The little girl liked to visit the tree. It made her feel even more little when she stood next to the huge tree. The trunk of the tree was hollow, with timber props and concrete employed to help hold it up, but the tree was still somehow surviving. The tree had a presence, as you’d expect. The little girl thought that, even with the intervention of props to support it, the tree was impressive, majestic, and magical.
The miracle of nature is what always came to mind when the little girl visited. That a tree could live so long was a sign that magic was at work. The little girl wondered how long trees like this would live if people weren’t here to interfere and stress them. 1000 years ago there were probably hundreds of these ancient trees. No wonder people used to worship them. Trees were ever present, permanent lifeforms, compared to the much shorter lifespan of humans. They must have seemed very magical indeed.
